Established in 1932 by Carl Borckenhagen, the success of this quantity surveying practice escalated to such an extent that 12 branch offices of Borckenhagen and Louw Inc. were opened throughout South Africa, with the Cape Town branch being established in 1955. In response to the changing nature of the construction industry and to ensure competitive and streamlined services, the various offices of Borckenhagen & Louw have now become autonomous units, with the name change to B&L Quantity Surveyors.
Whatever the changes, today B&L Quantity Surveyors still provides the same high level of professional service which formed the corner stone of the founders’ success. B&L Quantity Surveyors are present in all the major centres throughout South Africa, and although autonomous, strong links have been kept between the offices to ensure that the benefits of the established national resource is maintained with the sharing of infrastructure, information and expertise. As whole-hearted supporters of the Reconstruction and Development Programme, B&L Quantity Surveyors (Cape Town) have made their specialist services available to many community upliftment projects including clinics, cultural centres, churches and housing developments. This involvement in capacity building extends to and beyond the practice, where employees and colleagues are given every opportunity to advance their career prospects through training and practical experience.
B&L Quantity Surveyors Cape Town is headed up by Andre Louw. Andre has been with B&L since 1978, when he joined the Johannesburg office.
